Mind a Beautiful servant but Dangerous Master

Friends, should our brain be our servant or a master?

I wanted to pen down an article and thought let me give a try – it is easier to Google unlike in yesteryears we went to library and search for relevant topics. Life has been so easy. Isn’t it? I am not sure how many of you are of my generation. If you have graduated before 2000, I am confident you might be having those nostalgic memories of days you spent in library to figure out befitting article of your choice.

Humans are well-informed but at the same point time ill-informed. Creativity as well presence of mind has lost as we have mastered our mind to Google or adhere to mobile applications or gadgets. So is our mind becoming master rather than being slave to perform functions as per our will and wish? I feel yes.

I will quote an example. If you don’t get breakfast or sleep as per your will and wish you tend to lose control, it just keeps pushing you to a level of frustration where you are not able to focus on your work, neither sleep and I don’t think is a good way to begin your day, week or the month. But wonder how those extra 5 minutes of sleep or for breakfast can make a difference. You have appeased your brain and now it’s your best servant.

Last week, my kid – he is in Grade 3 had to present Tangram project – he had to create living shapes from pieces of squares and triangles. Instant reaction of my kid to Google for which we objected and this lead him to frustration. Since we have programmed his mind if you cannot Google can, this was bound to happen. For his generation, now search engines like Google are like a God like Figure. Instead of teaching him to give a space to mind, contemplate on the given topic and turn creative, we as parents, teachers or schools have given them a search engines as medicine for all diseases. It should otherwise be restricted to last minute resort.

Being typical parents, he himself googled and it displayed umpteen images. Awesome feeling ran through him and he yelled Google devta ki jay.  Hail Lord Google. I objected my dear son, your father should be your hero seems you are taking Google too much seriously – what he had to say – Dad, it is fine, but you see Google has done the wonders. You lost to it. I was carried aback. Seerious time for parents like me need to recontemplate where our Generation Next is heading towards. Our education system aims at creating Digital Citizen but I would rather aim at creating sensible citizens first.

Toy Giant companies like Barbie are coming up with innovative idea to launch interactive toys – which will study mind pattern of child – through artificial intelligence network it will reciprocate accordingly. Do we need such interactive toys at first place?

Tabs are being made mandatory in some of the schools from junior grades – though most of the research organization and psychologists have claimed that tabs pose physical as well as mental threts to kids upbringing.

Are we justifying Generation Next who are too innocent to assess the deadly repercussions of digital technology we are pushing them into?

Let us justify the potential of our child – groom them in their own style and see the wonders when they blossom. Generation we have is much more talented as well they are blessed with parents like you who might have been reached to the position you are after lot of struggle. You applied your brains – no tricks – no smart technology but with smart work. Download Smart work application you have created in your child and rest would be history.

I will like to narrate my own story who has been a sheer victim of Mastery of mind so far.

Post my accident days I made reading my passion – with the passage of time I used to explore more of the reading options through goggle. Never knew, but I entered uncharted territory of medical science. I started goggling about medical science though not my profession and through sponsored sites and mobile applications I came across very disappointing health related articles and analysis.

I will not blame media altogether but they have commercialized breast cancer, heart attacks and depression. I was pushed back in depression as I felt I am more prone to disease than anyone else. In between, if you can recollect lot of celebrities candidly endorsed depression and I started feeling pain of it. To dampen my spirits few of my colleagues expired because of heart attacks and cancer. That took a toll out of me.

Off-late there is heart attack radio ad listing symptoms and ending with message BE PREPARED. Hey hold is it a joke or a threat? One of leading daily newspaper on every alternate day has sponsored health articles from hospitals – I appreciate awareness but oppose to promoting and commercializing diseases. Book your appointment with cardiologist today…. Scary is nt it?

I came across an article which states sugar levels have been modified in the commercial interest of medical profession whereas same is the case for drinking water and breathing air.  Do we really need to be so conscious while purchasing water, oil and breathing air that we need to purchase devices and applications to measure our daily routines? These are the thoughts which we are compelling our mind to absorb and it turns so conscious that it pushes us in frustration and depression.  It’s time to pause a panic button and lead from the front to send a stern message to Corporates and institutions to define, confine and accept answerability to kids on experimenting such digital devices on human beings.

Please remember we are not so dumb that we need to buy brains for our brains. Absorb the best ideas and discard those apps, gadgets and devices to thrash. Your mind is your best play store. It has myriad of applications with no storage bounding. Ask it and I am confident it will design it for you.

I concur to it we are living in highly stressful world, but to make world a simpler and happier place it is we as an individual level need to recon template and let our mind guide our body rather than artificial intelligence and commercialized world dictate our mind. Give a disciplined approach to your life, what mind needs is s space. Go for spiritual meditation and appease your mind, confident it will reciprocate with paramount loyalty.
